For a good reason, Nespresso is one of the most intense competitors in the at-home coffee game.
Nespresso’s luxurious-looking, simplified machines that generate expensive-tasting espresso and coffee drinks, as well as other equipment marketed to prepare flawlessly frothed milk to go with the coffee, have rocketed them into coffee stardom.
They understand what it takes to produce a great cup of coffee. Nonetheless, the constant additional models and updates make it difficult for many coffee lovers to decide which is best to buy.
However, while thinking about which machine to purchase from the Nespresso collection, I’ll look at two outstanding models I like and compare them for you: the Nespresso VertuoNext and the Nespresso VertuoPlus.
Vertuo Next Vs. Vertuo Plus: My Choice
My pick is Vertuo Plus for its capacity, flexibility, and overall user-friendliness.
They both make delicious coffee, one takes more work, and the other has no BlueTooth connectivity
Which One Should You Buy?
It comes down to what matters most to you in a coffee machine when deciding whether the VertuoNext or the VertuoPlus is suitable for you.
The VertuoNext model may be the correct choice if you like a small, trendy appliance that offers a wide range of drink sizes while being unconcerned with the interface and design not being the most user-friendly. It has an entire carafe 18 oz brew size.
However, for numerous reasons, I believe the VertuoPlus is the higher-quality Nespresso machine and the best option of the two. The VertuoPlus is far quieter than the Vertuo Next machine while also giving the ease of the one-click opening of the device itself, as I said earlier.
Furthermore, the VertuoPlus’s moveable water reservoir makes it easy to store the machine compactly on nearly any counter. The VertuoPlus has a better overall layout and is easier to learn and use than the Vertuo Next.
While the overall flavor of the coffee and espresso may not have big differences between the two machines, it is worth noting that the coffee pods in the VertuoPlus machine are reputed to be a little sweeter. Vertuo Next, on the other hand, is recognized for having a more bitter flavor.
Although the Nespresso Vertuo Plus is not as well-known as ordinary Nespresso pods, this relative newcomer raises the bar for capsule-based coffee production.
You get five distinct coffee varieties, ranging from a single-shot espresso to a big mug that tastes just like what you’d receive from a high-end espresso machine but requires far less effort.
Pros:
- It’s completely hassle-free.
- It makes a wide range of coffees
- Produces excellent espresso
- Large water reservoir
- Bin for used capsules
Cons:
- Attracts dust
- Larger capsules are more expensive and difficult to locate
Key Similarities between VertuoNext & VertuoPlus
There are several things you can find alike between the VertuoPlus and the VertuoNext from Nespresso.
Similarities in a nutshell:
- Centrifusion technology
- No third party capsules
- Speed
- Use the same pods
- Removable reservoirs
Similarities Explained
Centrifusion Technology
For starters, both feature Centrifusion technology, which lets the coffee pods inside the machine revolve up to seven thousand times in one minute, resulting in nicely blended coffee grounded with the hot water inside.
Speed
Both offer short brewing times, with a total of 20 to 25 seconds from the moment I place the coffee pod into the machine to completion; an excellent cup of coffee or espresso is ready to drink.
The speed of both devices is unquestionably advantageous to people looking for the quickest machines accessible and who do not want to have to wait in the mornings before work to enjoy their beverage.
Same Pods & No Third-party
Another similarity between these two Nespresso machines is that they both use the same Nespresso coffee pods. Meaning, a coffee pod you buy for one device is usable in the other, and there are a variety of coffee pods from which you can select.
Removable Reservoirs
It’s great that you can remove the reservoirs, therefore, allowing you to clean and refill them conveniently.
Critical Differences Between VertuoNext & VertuoPlus
When comparing the two, there are a few distinctions to be made.
Differences in a nutshell:
- Size
- Reservoir capacity
- Reservoir Design
- Brew size
- Weight
- Bluetooth connectivity
- User-friendliness
- Environmentally friendly materials
- Capsule ejection
Differences Explained
Size
The size of the machines differs significantly between the two models, with the VertuoNext unit being smaller in both elevation and total width than the VertuoPlus. VertuoNext has a compact design and measures 5.5 inches from end to end. Meanwhile, VertuoPlus width is 0.1 inches wider but significantly taller.
Reservoir Capacity
Although the VertuoPlus machine comes with a bigger water reservoir—40 ounces versus 37 ounces for the VertuoNext—the reservoir can also be rotated around the device.
Reservoir Design
I like the idea of shifting the reservoir to the rear, left, or right of the device, allowing me to utilize more room on my countertop at any given time, which the Vertuo Next edition does not. Despite this, the Vertuo Next is the more compact variant and weighs roughly a pound more.
Brew Size
Another distinction is that the Vertuo Next model has one additional brewing size to the VertuoPlus. While both provide espresso (1.35 oz. ), a double espresso (2.7 oz. ), a gran lungo (5 oz. ), coffee (7 oz. ), and alto (14 oz. ), the Vertuo Next adds a carafe (18 oz.) to the mix.
While not everyone would seek or even reach for a size this large, for some who can’t get enough caffeine in their everyday life and are always hunting for the most prominent coffee sizes available, this much larger size option could be very appealing.
Weight
The VertuoNext weighs nine pounds, while the Plus is a pound heavier. They both have space for eight capsules.
Bluetooth & Wi-Fi Connectivity
It’s also worth noting that the Vertuo Next machine uses Bluetooth and WiFi to keep the software up to date and receive quick brewing parameters and updates, but the VertuoPlus does not.
User-friendliness
One notable distinction is that the VertuoPlus structure aims for considerably more user-friendliness when it comes to opening the machine and putting the coffee pod in there.
Environmentally-friendly materials
Furthermore, these machines comprise recyclable plastic, with the VertuoNext containing up to 54 percent recycled plastic. For coffee drinkers who are concerned about the environment, either machine would be a good choice.
While using the Vertuo Next system, you must move the clasp over to unlock the device and then relock it to insert the pod, whereas, with the VertuoPlus, you press down on the top, and it springs up.
This design element could help anybody who lacks the power to maneuver the Vertuo Next’s often complicated lock setting or who does not want to be bothered handling a machine for any longer than necessary.
Capsule Ejection
When it comes to the space inside the machines to keep old coffee pods—which is where they immediately go after being put in the machine, VertuoPlus can retain more than Vertuo Next before requiring it to be cleared. This feature is a bonus for individuals who don’t always remember to do so on busy days.
It’s great, especially if you’re working and just trying to grab a quick cup of a pick-me-up, then you can deal with emptying the rest later. For someone like me who is constantly moving, it’s a welcome feature.
Design Flaws
Vertuo Next, on the other hand, has several flaws. Some users have complained that the machine’s materials feel less expensive than those of other Nespresso machines, owing to recycled materials. Others have claimed that the Vertuo Next machines failed after only a few weeks of operation.
It’s worth noting that damaged products occur frequently. And, whether you choose Vertuo Next or another version, your machine is protected by a guarantee, and you’ll get a replacement machine if yours has any defect.
Bottom Line
Both machines are top of the line; after all, we’re talking about Nespresso. Nonetheless, I like flexibility and easy access, and so do many people. The question is, what do you want? Does an extra 18oz cup matter that much or BlueTooth connectivity? Then the next is yours.
However, if you prefer not to manually handle our machine every time you’d like a cup of coffee, want it slightly on the sweet side, and love that you can customize it, then the VertuoPlus is yours.
Don’t be bothered by the fact that the design happened in 2016. The features show it was ahead of its time because many newer machines, including the Next, lack flexibility and capacity.
Overall, either of these two Nespresso machines will provide delicious, flavorful coffee beverages that will satisfy you and leave you wanting more.
I hope this information has assisted you in deciding whether to purchase the Nespresso VertuoNext or VertuoPlus. Your device is for the long-term, so make your purchase with this in mind. Enjoy!
