The 7 Best Electric Moka Pots (Complete Guide)

Last Updated on September 30, 2021 by John Moretti

Electric Moka pots let you brew a very potent cup of coffee with a minimum waiting time. Very popular in Italy, they provide a unique brewing experience like no other. Unfortunately, however, many electric Moka pots on the market are of questionable quality and may leave you disappointed with your purchase. Thankfully, I researched the best options for your needs to ensure that you don’t end up unhappy here.

Electric Moka pots are surprisingly more diverse than you’d think. My favorite model was the DELONGHI EMK6, an electric Moka pot of the highest quality. However, I also found quite a few other models that were worth your time and consideration. Each of these options provides unique facets that make them worth considering, particularly for those who want the best moka possible.

I looked long and hard when trying to find the best options for your needs. My results turned up eight unique models, each with different benefits and disadvantages. I tried to sort them out based on various quality standards to provide you with the look and feel that you need. I’ll also go over all of the best features, pros, cons, and anything else you need to know about your electric Moka pot.

Features:

  • Stainless-Steel Finish Material
  • Lightweight Overall Aluminum Build
  • Cordless Design Options

Overview:

When looking for an electric Moka pot that fits just about any needs, this option is perhaps the finest on the market today. I reviewed quite a few of its closet competitors and honestly didn’t find any that could match it. That’s a huge deal because there are so many Moka pots on the market today. What about this simple little machine stood out to me and made it my top pick?

I loved, loved, loved the aluminum material design! Aluminum is an excellent choice for Moka pots because it is strong, resistant to rust, and brews a beautiful cup of coffee. The design is also relatively compact and lightweight as a result, meaning you won’t feel like you’re lugging a heavy machine around when you brew. That’s a significant advantage to those who want a smoother and simpler machine design.

I also loved the fact that it can hold up to six cups of coffee beans with each brew. And the transparent pot design makes it easier for you to watch the process, which is often quite fascinating to many coffee fans. There’s simply nothing quite like watching your coffee slowly brew and knowing that it will be ready for you and your friends very soon. Thankfully, there are also minimal downsides to this machine.

For example, I loved the two-level safety system that automatically shuts off the brewer when it’s done. You can also take the body away from the base, and the pot turns off immediately. That kind of benefit is enormous and can ensure that you are safe when you’re brewing. Everybody deserves that kind of safety, mainly when brewing with what can be a sometimes challenging tool.

Pros

  • The safety system will minimize burning risks and dangers
  • Huge container lets you serve a relatively good number of people
  • The overall look is sturdy, and the feel is quite durable

Cons

  • May produce a very hot cup of coffee
  • The cordless operation may feel fussy to some people

Features:

  • Very Lightweight Design
  • 80% Aluminum Body
  • Three-Cup Brewing Capacity

Overview:

The cool thing about many electric Moka pots is that they possess a very lightweight body that is easy to handle. A traditional Moka pot is a bit heavier by comparison but still easy to handle. And this model has the kind of light feel that I look for in this brewer. In addition, the 80% aluminum body is rust-free, capable of lasting for many years, and light enough to haul around for hours.

I also loved the silver-colored finish on the aluminum. It produces the kind of old-fashioned Moka pot look that many people crave. While it is a bit smaller than the top option (one reason it was downgraded to second place), it still brews up to three cups of coffee. You can also buy a separate adapter that will produce a fourth cup of coffee, expanding its use even further.

Thankfully, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about that extra cup because this machine is straightforward to clean. Simply wash it out between each use, and you can make another three cups of coffee with minimum difficulty. As a result, you can provide a steady supply of delicious java to your friends and family without worrying about anybody getting impatient waiting for you.

The one thing that I felt uncomfortable with was, ironically, the lightness of the machine. While I liked its overall feel and adaptability, it simply felt a little too light at times. I fear tipping it over could be reasonably straightforward, especially if you’re a newer brewer. So be careful if you try this option. Moka pots shouldn’t be dangerous to use but use precaution to ensure you stay safe.

Pros

  • Metal hinge helps to make it very easy to clean
  • A substantial body that withstands wear and tear
  • Surprisingly excellent taste with each cup

Cons

  • A little small compared to some models
  • It could feel too light to some people

Features:

  • Portable Design and Compact Controls
  • Very Solid Material Design
  • Surprisingly Powerful Brewing

Overview:

There’s nothing quite like taking your favorite Moka pot with you when you are camping or on a road trip. And if you’re planning on traveling, this Moka pot is the best choice for your needs. Bialetti is one of the premier Italian Moka pot manufacturers. As the original inventor of the device, they have been in operation for about 100 years and produce high-quality goods.

On the surface, this pot is reasonably similar to many other choices on the market. However, it has been designed specifically for camping and different types of travel experiences. Its smaller size and compact power source (110 volts or 230 volts) should help power it well enough for great brewing. Even better, it has a longer shelf life than a similar budget and portable Moka pot model.

In many ways, it’s the little things that set this pot apart from others. For example, the handsome color design not only makes this an attractive pot but one that’s easier to find. That may be a huge benefit when you’re camping: for example, you could easily find a lost pot simply by following its red color. However, there are a few negative things that should be discussed before purchase.

For example, you may find that it takes more than half an hour for this pot to finish brewing your coffee! That’s a long time, even for a Moka pot, and could affect many people’s enjoyment. That said, it still provides a more durable and high-quality travel option compared to the others on this list. So if you’re patient, you’ll still get a great cup of Moka from this machine.

Pros

  • Very portable and easy to transport
  • Bright colors are attractive and appealing
  • A diverse range of plug-in options

Cons

  • It takes a while to brew your coffee
  • Not exactly the cheapest model on our list

Best Budget Model: Bialetti – Moka Express

Features:

  • Aluminum and Silver Design
  • Six-Pot Brewing Capacity
  • Patented Safety Valve for Easier Brewing

Overview:

(Electric or other stove is required!)

If you want a high-quality Moka pot but are on a budget, this option is the best choice for you. It is designed by Bialetti to be an inexpensive, adaptable, and high-quality brewing option. While there’s not much fancy about its design or implementation, it gets the job done. In a way, I like its inherent simplicity. You don’t have to worry about any confusing settings or other factors to get started brewing.

Even better, this model is adaptable with multiple types of stoves. You can charge it directly on its heating pad or warm it on an electric, gas, or induction stove. However, you’ll need to purchase an induction plate (not included) for that stove type. That’s one element that brought this down a bit in my eyes. It was frustrating to see that you had to spend more on what is technically a budget purchase.

You can also choose what size you want when purchasing. Some may want the cheaper one-cup model, while others may like the nine-cup max model. Whatever option you choose, it is a good idea to make sure that you brew as much coffee as possible. Doing so helps to keep the machine operating smoothly and minimizes the risk of any potential damage. Read your manual to learn more about this concern.

Thankfully, it should be reasonably easy to clean this model by rinsing it with clean water. Don’t use soap or detergents or put it in a dishwasher. Unfortunately, too many people make that mistake and seriously damage this model. This advice should be heeded for all Moka pot models. You simply don’t want to risk damaging them and ruining your fun coffee brewing investment.

Pros

  • Relatively easy to clean thanks to the safety valve
  • Follows the original Moka pot design
  • Adaptable brewing cup size, depending on your model

Cons

  • It could be damaged if cleaned improperly
  • It lacks the fun bells and whistles of other models

Best Multi-Cup Moka Pot: Bialetti’s Kitty

Features:

  • 18/10 Stainless-Design Design
  • 12-Ounce Capacity
  • Electric and Stove Design Options

Overview:

(Electric or other stove is required!)

I figured that we’d get one more Bialetti Moka pot on this list before we finished! I love this fun and simple design for a few reasons. First, it has a six-cup or 12-ounce capacity that makes it work for a variety of situations. Typically, it’s best for a small get together with friends or for the coffee fan who just needs two or three cups to get started in the morning.

Like other Bialetti Moka pots, this option produces a great cup of coffee using either the electric heating option or the stovetop. The choice all depends on what choice works the best for your needs. You can also use it on an electric stove to create a safe brewing environment. That diversity of uses makes this a fun and diverse little Moka pot that should work for most people’s needs.

I don’t think that this little pot is quite like other Bialetti pots. For example, you should not use cocoa, tea, or other types of brewing options with this pot. Other Bialetti Moka pots let you do that, but this one does not. Unfortunately, these grounds are likely to burn to your pot and leave a residue. Focus only on appropriate coffee to ensure that your pot remains safe.

Thankfully, this pot also has a unique cool-touch surface, an idea familiar to most Bialetti pots. This design helps to prevent burns and keeps your hands safe. The handle also has an ergonomic design that is both comfortable and safer than other Moka pots. This design keeps your hand away from the pot’s body, which helps to increase its safety further and minimize any complications.

Pros

  • Excellent capacity makes it useful for many brewing situations
  • Diverse brewing capabilities for a suitable cup of coffee
  • Safety design minimizes potential damage risk

Cons

  • Not compatible with other grounds
  • It may feel awkward for some people to handle

Features:

  • Traditional and Straightforward Look and Style
  • Fairly Light Design
  • Six-Cup Brewing Capacity

Overview:

Moka pots are not complex machines. Even electric models usually have only a few buttons and controls: some have just one button to turn them on and off. When it comes to simple and streamline models, you can’t do much better than this option. It has the kind of high-quality design excellence that makes it stand out from many other basic models on the market today.

Just put your coffee in the pot (up to six cups with each brew), pour in the water, and turn on the heater. The aluminum boiler heats up smoothly and evenly, allowing for very high-quality brews. Once the coffee is done brewing, you pour it into cups and enjoy. It’s as simple as that. You don’t have to worry about adjusting your cup size or any other steps that complicate some Moka pot models.

While I do love the simplicity of this model, I can also see how it would be a drawback. Why? Some people may look at it and wonder how it differs from a cheaper Moka pot. That’s a good question and one that is hard to answer. Essentially, it all comes down to just working with the machine and experiencing how it works. It simply feels stronger and executes its job better than other, cheaper Moka pots.

It’s hard to quantify that kind of thing in a mere 300-400 words here. It’s a situation in which I’m just going to have to ask you to trust me. After trying out several similar basic models, this option just does everything it needs to do with minimum worry. Unfortunately, it has been known to fail for no reason in scarce circumstances. Thankfully, these complaints are not that common but should be noted.

Pros

  • Lightweight, making it very easy to handle and utilize
  • A reliable machine that gets the job done with minimum fuss
  • A very streamlined design makes it simple to use in many situations

Cons

  • It may not appeal to those who want a bit more flash for their purchase
  • Some complaints of sudden and unexplained failure have occurred with this model

Best Modern-Style Moka Pot: Filfeel 480W Electric Moka Pot

Features:

  • Simple and Sleek Electrical Design
  • Non-Rust Aluminum Alloy
  • Hardy Six-Cup Capacity

Overview:

Last on our list is this fun and colorful little Moka pot. It is the kind of pot you often see in many different stores: which might be its biggest weakness. It doesn’t really stand out that much, though I do like its somewhat unique stylistic changes. Not quite traditional in its style, this post features a more modern and aerodynamic design that is definitely a change from old-school looks.

That said, most modern-style Moka pots have a similar overall look and feel. So, why did this option make it on our list? Like with many of our choices, it comes down to a lot of small things. First, it had a surprisingly quick brewing speed that felt appropriate and comfortable for our needs. I also liked how easy it was to use this pot to make Moka. Its one-button design couldn’t be any easier.

Some users may not appreciate this simplicity. After all, many brewers like having a lot of diverse controls that make it easier to produce a high-quality cup of coffee. Moka pots aren’t exactly like that. They typically have an effortless design and rely on this simplicity to thrive. However, most of the other pots on this list were a bit more diverse than this option.

That said, this pot has a six-cup capacity, an attractive overall design, and an appealingly simple design. What’s not to like about it? In our opinion, there’s a lot to like and little to dislike. That’s why it made our list: it’s high-quality enough to stand out from others I researched. It’s just that compared to the other options I’ve already reviewed, it definitely comes at the bottom end.

Pros

  • The very simple overall design
  • A sleek and handsome look
  • Very durable and safe operations

Cons

  • Not cheap, which could deter some
  • Could have more available colors

How to Choose a Moka Pot

When I researched and chose the best electric Moka pots for this list, I carefully looked at the factors below. Then, I weighed each of them against the other options on the market and narrowed down the best picks for each need. You can take these steps yourself, too! Doing so will help you better understand the Moka pots on the market and pick whatever option is perfect for you.

Capacity

Try to choose a Moka pot on this list that meets your brewing needs and your capacity expectations. For example, if you drink one cup of coffee a day, you don’t need a nine-cup Moka pot. That’s simply a waste of your time and money. Likewise, if you tend to drink many cups of coffee throughout the day (or serve multiple people), a more significant capacity option is vital to consider.

Style

I wouldn’t worry too much about the style here because most Moka pots look very similar. However, you can choose between silver finishes, bare aluminum colors, multiple shades, and more. Typically, you want to find the high-quality look that fits into your kitchen and which makes the most sense for your needs as a person. In this way, you can cut back on any stylistic confusion.

Brewing Speed

How quickly does your Moka pot produce your brew? Do you want a fast-brewing cup or one that takes its time? With a Moka pot, less time is often better. You usually want to give it time to soak in the flavor and produce an excellent-quality brew. However, you may also have a busy life (who doesn’t?) and need your coffee quickly. Pay attention to this factor and choose your Moka pot wisely.

Portability

Is your pot lightweight and easy to move? Can it be plugged into many chargers or even used without the heating pad? Can you take it anywhere you want to go, or does it need a steady source of electricity to work? Consider all of these factors before choosing your electric Moka pot. Then, research what each has to offer, and it should be simpler to find an option that works the best for you.

Electrical Output

How much electricity does your pot need to use, and how much does it require to brew your coffee? You should find this information on the side of your Moka pot box or in its description online. Typically, 110-200 volts are expected for this machine. However, the overall electrical needs may vary. Make sure that you research this fact and consider it when picking your next pot.

Potential Extra Brewing Gear

Lastly, make sure that you pay attention to any “extras” that you might need to buy. For instance, do you need to buy a special brewing plate with certain types of stoves? Or does your pot use a special heating pad and no stovetop? Whatever the situation, make sure you pay close attention to your Moka pot’s overall design and structure to find a model that feels right for your needs.

Find the Moka Pot That You Love

By now, you should have a pretty good idea of which of these Moka pots is suitable for your needs. If you’re like the average buyer, you’ve weighed the options in your mind and picked the possibility that just suits your lifestyle. What if none of these options appeal to you? It is vital to research and try out a few other options to see what works for you. Thankfully, a little research can go a long way here.
